Session 28 - Escaping with the Blade

The party is enveloped in a blinding white flash, and suddenly they found themselves separated from the group for a short time, before returning to the room where the blinding light is starting to subside, leaving a pile of crystalline rubble amidst the growing pile of crumbling clockwork pieces heaped in the center of the floor.

The party resumes their retreat, and Qumn performs the geas required to teleport them out of there.  The party then finds themselves in an endless expanse, a room with no walls or ceilings but with several teleport circles surrounding them, and a large stone table with a huge map sitting on its surface.  On this map are many locations with what appear to be hand-drawn depictions o fthe destinations.

Qumn almost instantly moves to one of the teleport circles and performs the geas again, disappearing. Without their guide, they spent several minutes trying to learn the geas by memory and attempted to use it themselves, Godrin decides to investigate the map further.  He discovers that touching a destination on the map causes it to glow, and when he touches the destination for what they suspect is the residence of Elarod the wizard of Embermill, a ghostly visage of him studying at his desk appears in the center of the room behind them, he doesn't seem to notice them.

Suddenly, Qumn reappears naked and on fire from a nearby teleport circle, screaming.  Elarod is startled and looks up from his studies and is able to see the party.  After a short discussion it was decided that Elarod could transport them home using the teleport circles, but Mmar reminded the party that the child they had rescued was likely left in Hissith's temple and that they used a teleport pad there that they might be able to use to get back in.  Elarod confirmed that he could direct them there with a complex magical formulae, then get them back to his mansion from there once they were ready to depart, but he would not be able to communicate with them until then - so the party asked for a 1 hour window to teleport back.

Stepping onto the pad, the party is transported back to the cavern where Hissith's hoard and crystal monument is housed.  Mmar  instantly loses his strength from the glowing crystal and sees its light dies in his hand, the blade encased in crystal become impossibly heavy and thuds to the floor loudly.  A voice is heard speaking in the chamber -

"Welcome back.  Have you come to return the blade to me?" The party realizes now that coming here was maybe not such a great idea, especially with the blade.  The party then hears the heavy footsteps of a 30 foot tall frost giant.  Around from the other side of the crystal dragon steps Myton, who makes his way slowly toward the party and crosses his arms.  The party inquires with Hissith about the missing child, to which Hissith responds "The child is safe.  I will release them to you once I have my lost blade." The party relents, realizing thy have no way out and they arent prepared to fight Myton for a weapon they dont know much about.

"Bring the blade to me" Hissith beckons, Godrin suggests that Myton be the one who carries the blade to her, since he is stronger than they are and obviously serves her.  Hissith likes this idea and Myton retrieves the blade, offering it up to the dragon, bowing near the head.  The blade magically lifs from his hands, and the crystal around the blade shatters, and the pieces begin spinning around the blade and orbiting it faster, giving off an increasingly intense light until the party has to sheild their eyes.  Suddenly, the pieces scatter outward and the blade is sent hurtling into the air.

The party notices that the crystal dragon is becoming hard to focus on, like it vibrating or moving quickly but seems not to move.  Then they see the crystalline figure start to decalcify and the crystal retreats giving way to smooth stone, until the entire statue is now made of stone.  Only then does the party start to see the stone melt away like a retreating fungus on the body of a pure white dragon.  Within a minute, the dragon is no longer stone and it unfurls its wings and stretches its neck.  With one swift movement, Hissith slithers out of her cavern with a loud crack as the breaks away at the stone formations that have built up over thousands of years of solitude.  With a deafening roar, and an earthquake, the dragon's tail disappears into the exit to the temple proper.

Myton takes off after the dragon hustling out of the temple, the party stands stunned unsure of what to do now.
