Session 29 - Returning Victorious
The party pursues Hissith out of her sanctum and follows Myton as he bounds through the rubble. Hissith had rampaged her way through the tunnels and temple, leaving ruins where once her temple stood. A giant gaping hole now exists where previously there was a stone wall, open now to the cold and blinding snow.
The party catches up to Myton as he stoically stares into the distance toward Hissith as she flies over the burnt forest to the south, flying circles over the area swooping down and then back up again, screaming her dragon rage. Mmar sidles up to Myton and asks what he will do now that his god is awakened. "This is worrying news for our people. Many do not know hissith was a dragon and old hatreds run deep. My people will need me." Myton begins trudging back to his village which lies in the distance.
The party watches hissith land in the charred forest and disappear, only to return to the sky a few minutes later. After a short while, the party returns to the inner sanctum of the temple to prepare for their departure deadline.
After returning to the inner sanctum, the party sees an elf stride into the room behind them, dressed as a priestess. Godrin draws his bow in warning, but she ignores him. She approaches the dragon horde and walks past its protectors, who regard her as a friend. Climbing atop the stone altar where the statue once stood, she flicks her wrist and conjures a throne of ice out of nothing, and takes her seat.
"you have done me a great service bringing back my blade, i know you seek its power to hunt Solomir, you may borrow it to slay him if you wish. If you ever have need of my help in your fight against him, please let me know."
Mmar reminds her that she still has yet to fulfill her end of the original bargain, the child must be returned. Hissith does seem to recall this and smiles coyly as the child walks out from behind the throne into view. The child now has a white crystal gently resting on her forehead, about the size of an acorn. Mmar inquires how hissith treated them, to which the child speaks: "I am fine, better in fact, i was treated with great courtesy." The child's voice is distinctly feminine and spoken now with confidence.
The party is surprised but is on a timeline and goes to depart to Embermill using Elarod's timed teleport spell. they bid farewell to Hissith and disappear in a blast of wind.
Finding themselves in Elarod's study, the party is able to shed their furs and sit down for a fine meal. Elarod updates the party on the situation in Embermill - the Merchant's guild enforcers 'stone men' have moved into the town and occupied all spare resources for some sort of battle happening outside town, putting the town on voluntary lockdown on the authority of the merchant's guild. The party can guess what battle is happening since the Merchant's guild was so interested to get at the red magicite they found in the burning forest.
Elarod reports he has witnessed them breaching the wall of the stone fortress that appeared after they last left the forest, and they fought with fire creatures and even humanoids, Elarod suspects half-breeds between man and elemental, often enslaved and used by elemental lords and kings on their home plane. Suddenly however a great white dragon flew over the town not but a little while ago and terrified everyone, though the dragon left the town alone it seemed to land outside of town in the direction of the fortress, Elarod guesses the party knows something, but doesn't push.Dinner will be ready shortly and Mmar wishes to return Balbon's magical stone.
Balbon has a knowing look in his eye when the stone is returned, "I hope it aided you as well as it has for me in the past." winking slightly as he takes it back from Mmar and placing it back on his shelf in the back. "I trust Myton didnt give you too much trouble? He can be unfriendly even on his best days, but since you're standing here now I'm guessing he didn't forget his vow." Mmar tells him that Myton called it the power of the 'hollow-handed' and asks him what that means. Balbon tells him that both the dagger of Hissith, the dagger in the red magicite they described, and the weapons that Myton used to asend to his station of power with his tribe were all made by an ancient dwarven smith caste called the Hollow-Handed. He removes one of his blacksmith gloves to reveal a metal hand with a large hole in the palm, about the size of the crystal.
These stones were given to us by the gods in order to craft weapons and armor of great power to fight the dark powers that escaped into the mortal world in ancient times. Some of us still draw breath, and now that i have the stone back i can finish your order." Mmar remembers his spiked gauntlets he had requested before they left, now excited at the prospect of Balbon imbuing them with the power of the stone. He tells Mmar that they should be ready by tomorrow assuming the stone men don't make trouble. They return to Elarod's mansion (outhouse) to eat.
The party has many questions for Elarod over dinner and they make plans to return to the fortress outside of town with haste, after exhausting their list of questions to Elarod about what they'd seen.
