Session 21 - Into the howling cavern
The party departs from the frost giant village and travels westward down the slopes of the mountain to a nearby peak, stopping at a base camp area half-way down that leads onward towards the western peak where their destination lies. In the night, they heard howling, Godrin suspected Yetis, but didnt think their howls were cause for alarm, though he did wake Mmar to see if he could detect anything, which he didnt.
Next morning, the party set off towards the western peak, crossing a rocky and snowy region that led up to a plateau near the mouth of a large cave, as they get closer, they hear a song on the wind, like the chanting of monks or a chorus of giants, but its source is not evident.
Continuing to round the base of the peak, they notice large symbols carved into giant boulders that Nithian noted means 'holy ground' in giantspeak. The party continued around the base of the peak and began to feel large branches or sticks buried in the snow beneath their feet, making travel a bit difficult, also they see icy bones stickign up from the snow in increasing numbers the closer they get to the cave. After a short time, Godrin notices that the bones are human bones that are made of what appears to be solid silver, the party is intrigued but moves onward wihtout disturbing too many of the remains.
Once in front of the mouth of the cavern, standing 200 feet tall, is a rough-hewn stone wall, sealing the cave off from the elements. The doors in this wall are 50 feet high and 40 feet across, large enough for two giants to pass through side-by-side easily. The melody on the wind seems to be coming from inside the windows in the wall, some 200 feet off the ground, and the noise seems quieter now as they approach.
The party attempts to open the doors, Mmar pulls out the crystal that was given to him by Balbon, but finds that its light is extinguished, and grants him no greater strength. Instead, the party creeps through a large crack in the wall and shimmies through to the first room, within the room there is no sound and no light except for the windows high above them, too far to lend any visibility.
Light sources are lit to help the party find their way. The party notices quickly that they are standing in a room with a host of over 200 silver skeletons, all standing up in neat rows. The child is unnerved and begins to audibly complain, the party is uneasy about having him in here, but has to press on, so Mmar agrees to sit with him outside the wall while the party explores.
