Session 18 - The cottage in the Woods
The next day, Theron rejoins the party as they are searching through the cottage remains looking for anything that might provide information on who the child and his caretakers were. Godrin found a journal which he skimmed through, learning that the child's caretakers were not his parents but guardians instructed to care for him, as well as some other smaller bits of info.
Items gained:
Cottage Journal
Erehorn learned that there was a faint magical energy somewhere below the house, which led Theron to pry up the floorboards so the party could explore further. In the basement, they found a ornately decorated purple chest that was faintly magical. Qumnferneffle's arcana training allowed him to identify the runes inscribed in the inside of the box as teleportation runes.
Erehorn uses his book of identify to identify the box as a Chest of Receiving commissioned by the Great Divination Wizards and their ranks. The chest is used as a destination point for teleporting goods over great distances. Many were made and distributed to the Great Wizards a long time ago.
Item gained:
Ornate box of Receiving
The party lingers at the cottage for too long, resupplying with some dried meats and fruits from the cottage stores and is suddenly beset upon by two large frost giants. Mmar and the child as well as Erehorn took shelter in the trees while Theron, Godrin, and Qumnferneffle hid in the cottage basement.
The giants rummaged about in the cottage remains and poked at their dead comrade before starting to move toward Mmar and Erehorn. Realizing they were in the giant's path, they tried to sneak away, but Erehorn's complete unfamiliarity with subtlety seemed to give their position away. The giants drew near and the child ran full speed straight away from the cottage, attracting the attention of the giants.
Erehorn cast a spell of darkness near the giants to distract them and potentially offer the party cover, as Mmar blindly charged in. Alerted by his battle cry, the rest of the party climbed up from the cellar and joined the fray. The giants were killed after a spectacular battle, and Qumnferneffle began shooting magic randomly in the direction of the giants, and seemed to have trouble stopping himself. The party was left in poor shape after fighting such large foes, but all decided to go searching for the boy who had fled.
The found the boy exhausted and collapsed a distance away from the cottage, they recovered him and carried him back to camp before resting to recover from battle.
