Session 2 - The Upper Sanctum of Corellon

After their short rest in the dormitory hall of the temple, they pressed onward into the main foyer of the temple.  Several goblins were supposed to be on watch there, but they were quickly scattered by arrows from Godrin and Theron.

Haldruin, now able to approach the temple after the Hybernazel was removed from the glowing orb of power in the temple, is assaulted by goblins on his way into the temple, but he is able to fight them off with help from Zarzeros, a paladin of Tiamat who was on his way to investigate report of strange happenings near the temple.  Together they approach the main foyer entrance and join the party.

Mmar looks suddenly sick after his raging violence and tells the party he will regroup shortly with the party.  Haldruin volunteers to stay behind to defend the temple's main foyer from any further goblin infiltration while the party works to clear out the upper boughs of the temple tree.

The rest of the party moves onward into the temple they found stairs that lead outside and wind upward for over a hundred feet, twisting around the trunks of the giant trees the temple was constructed around. The party engages some goblins that appeared to be on their way down - including some particularly annoying archers, but made short work of them with readily available cover due to the twisting nature of the stairway.

The upper foyer is less of a room and more of a platform among the upper boughs of the trees, with the branches forming the walls and roof of this room, the room is in disarray and several goblins had been grabbed by some of the tree's vines and branches, fighting back against the goblin infestation in order to prevent them from moving further into the highest sanctum of the temple.

As the party arrives, a dark fog rolls into the room and Haldruin is being held aloft grasped at the throat by a shadowy figure. The fog seems to wilt the branches of the tree and the goblins fall back to the ground and the goblins breathe in the dark fog and are rapidly transformed into hulking monstrosities of orcish proportions, engaging the party as the fog recedes into the branches and into the tree, wilting more of the temples natural formations.

When the fight was over, Haldruin's body is found dead on the ground, having been asphyxiated and strangled by the fog figure.

The party decides to continue to explore the upper reaches of the temple, where they find the inner sanctum of Corellon Larethian. One by one the party moves into the sanctum and shortly converses with Corellon, who thanks them for purging his temple and grants them several items and a safe place to rest.

Items gained:
Seraphim Sun sword
Corellon's book of song
Censer of Corellon's Grace
