Session 4 - Screams in the night

The party set up watches for the night while they sleep, and Theron took first watch for anything suspicious. When he saw dancing lights in the distance he decided to investigate.  They seemed innocent enough, and he was even able to capture a few of these floating lights in a glass bottle he carried, but is suddenly ambushed by a powerful unseen foe and goes unconscious after being tossed through the air and hit against a tree.

The party awakes to a scream in the camp as one of the hunters is dragged off into the trees trying to grasp at anything in arm's reach.  The dragonborn called Lozrat takes off instantly after his friend and disappears into the forest. The party takes a moment to gather themselves and pursue, finding both Theron and Mmar missing from the camp.

Tracking the trail of broken brush and blood into the forest, they also discover what appears to be a silver liquid along the trail, smeared and streaked in the direction they're tracking. A short distance away they discover the body of Theron on the ground near a large tree, some of his equipment scattered nearby. They wake him to join them as they pursue.

Godrin finds evidence of dire wolves marking their territory as they continue to gain ground tracking their target, and this gives him pause.
The party spends a minute discussing - they are vulnerable out of their armor and consider that the two hunters could be dead. Is it worth it to also die trying to find their bodies? The party almost retreats back to camp before a decision is made to press on. No more than a few steps into the wolves territory and the party's keen senses spotted a wolf ambush in the bushes ahead, drawing their weapons the wolves sprung to defend their territory.

The party handles the giant dire wolves and finds the human hunter on the ground, covered in the silver liquid.  He was fatally wounded, clawed by wolves and flesh ripped to tatters. He gurgles some unintelligible last words before passing within minutes of being found by the party. They prop him up against a tree and take his sword as proof of his death to return to the exiles, as well as some other items from his pack.

Items gained:
Silvered shortsword and dagger
Vial of alchemical silver

Godrin cautioned against further travel in the dark night within dire wolf territory, and the part had few leads on where to go next, so they returned to camp a bit worse for wear but slept the rest of the night uninterrupted. Godrin noticed Mmar return to camp shortly after everyone went back to sleep, he went directly to his bedroll without a word, just as he did when the hunters arrived to join their camp before the party went to sleep.

In the morning the party continued on back to Springpointe, crossing the river without issue and continuing back to the forest clearing where they previously ran into the battlefield with strewn weapons everywhere, only this time the site was the location of an elven gala, the party was greeted warmly and offered food and drink. Only Theron accepted, and was treated to the most delicious food and wine he's ever had. Zarzeros, the paladin thinks he sees one of the cultists from the temple, who walks out of the gala grounds and into the trees. No one else saw this however and so the party largely dismisses it as they continue on to Springpointe.
